Bills Receivable

The amount collected in respect of bills receivable are verified reference to Bills Receivable Book. When bills are purchased, a provision for the amount of the discount, not earned till the close of the year is made in the accounts, in the case of bank. If the bills have been discounted, the contingent liability in respect of the discounted bill is disclosed in the balance sheet, also bills which have since been paid off are shown separately. Enquiries should be made from the client as regards the position of a bill or bill receivable dishonoured and if it is suspected that the amount due on a bill may not be recovered, a provision thereof should be made.
